Camping Holidays in Switzerland
A small, wealthy country, best known for its outstanding mountainous senery, fine cheeses, delicious chocolates, Swiss bank accounts and enviable lifestyles. Centrally situated in Europe it shares its borders with four countries: France, Austria, Germany and Italy, each one having its own cultural influence on Switzerland.
The landscape of Switzerland boasts mountains, valleys, waterfalls and glaciers. The Bernese Oberland is probably the most visited area, with picturesque villages, lakes and awe inspiring peaks, including the towering Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The highest Alps are those of Valais in the southwest where the small busy resort of Zermatt gives access to the Matterhorn. The southeast of Switzerland has densely forested mountain slopes and the wealthy and glamourous resort of St Moritz. Zurich in the north is a German speaking city with a wealth of sightseeing, particularly in the old town area with its 16th and 17th centruy houses. Geneva, Montreux and Lausanne on the northern shores of lake Geneva make up the bulk of French Switzerland, with vineyards that border the lakes and medieval towns. The southernmost canton, Ticino, is home to the Italian speaking Swiss, with the Meriterranean style lakeside resorts of Lugano and Locarno.
