Sunny summer camping holidays

Sure, we're fed up with wet British summers and we all want some sun - but where to go and is the sun guaranteed when we arrive? Well no, but statistically speaking, the further south you go, the better the chance of sunshine and feel-good holiday weather. So generally in France and Spain, the weather is likely to be much better than in your own back garden.

The Med promises the driest, hottest weather of all, however not everyone wants unadulterated heat. Other regions have their own micro-climates. Brittany and Normandy are popular with families, especially those with young children, who while they do want to escape the British 'summer', do not necessarily want the kids to fry all day. What's more it means less time in a hot car to get there.
Some will tell you the Vendée-Charente coastline has more sunshine hours than the Cote d'Azur, and many resorts boast of their unique micro-climate. Further south, Aquitaine is believed by many Parisians to offer the best climate of all: many of them head to Bordeaux and the Landes forests.

Inland areas do not afford the cooling sea breezes but usually you avoid the masses who flock to the coast. For many, a hot, hazy afternoon in the Loire Valley or the Dordogne with the sound of cicadas for company is preferable to a lively bar on the sun-baked Riviera or Costas.
